Despite of sounding like something one does to dented automibiles, the term actually refers to a wide variety of manipulative therapies that affect the body's posture, function and behavior. Human hands are used to influence physiology, and provide relief for various conditions ranging from muscles that have lost 'normal' tone to asthma. Bodywork affects not only the mechanics and plasticity of the body, but also its neural organization aiming to break up those sensory and mental patterns that disrupt normal movement/function. The mind is the organizer of our health and our strenght, and our self healing abilities are awesome. Bodywork can provide that tactile stimulation that is essential for breaking up circular relationships between cultivated movement habits and chronic conditions. I work with a range of clients with varying conditions, from simple stress to serious injuries. I am passionate about helping people with scoliosis, and other structural problems.
I place the focus on enhancing posture, encouraging more efficient movement patterns by inducing changes to the body's structure and educating clients into embodying these changes. The work will seek to address symptoms. But it will also go beyond that. I look to find underlying patterns that may have given rise to the symptoms. I will seek to recognize compensatory, adaptive strain patterns throughout the body, and how these patterns reinforce structural dysfunctions. Once these are identified, the primary aim is to balance the structural system, and not to 'fix' the aches. Structural balancing reduces the overall biomechanical stress, and will affect both the frequency and the severity of painful episodes.
